I would class the Xbox 360 as the greatest games console in history. It felt like a huge upgrade from the Original Xbox, it really pushed online and wireless technology. Even better was that even in its last few years, developers were able to squeeze a huge amount of the aging machine. Splinter Cell: Blacklist looked and ran amazingly for such a late title.
The greatest thing about the 360, was the amazing controller. Before the Xbox 360 controller, my favourite controller was 1992’s SNES control pad, and I had every console between and nothing beat it until the 360.
The Xbox 360 was the first time I saw the potential for a digital marketplace and having a permanent online gaming profile, something that I find important to this day. The achievement system is a major motivator not only due to the short term satisfaction factor, but that it is now a ten year long testament to my gaming history.
The top ten essential games for the Xbox 360 are, or were:
- Lost Odyssey
- Mass Effect Series
- Red Dead Redemption
- Borderlands
- Gears of War
- Chromehounds
- Condemned: Criminal Origins
- Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts
- Halo 3
- Crackdown 1/2
